I’ve always loved taking on big projects around my home, and in early 2025 I decided to take on my biggest one yet—installing my own solar system from start to finish. From design and permitting to the full installation, I poured over a hundred hours into learning, planning, and building what felt like my Everest of DIY projects. When I finally flipped the switch, I was proud of what I had accomplished.
Just a few weeks later, I started hearing the unmistakable sound of pigeons above my ceiling. Then came the droppings and nesting debris showing up around the base of my home. It didn’t take long to realize what had happened—pigeons had moved in under my brand-new solar system.
What they didn’t know is that I’ve spent over 16 years in the pest control industry. I knew exactly how to handle the problem. After professionally pest-proofing my own system and seeing firsthand how common—and frustrating—this issue is, I decided to start Solar Defenders to help other homeowners avoid the same experience.
Over the years, I’ve specialized in pest-proofing homes across the Phoenix Valley, including complex rodent exclusion work that goes far beyond typical bird control. That experience allows me to deliver a level of precision, durability, and attention to detail that most companies simply don’t match.

Our 3-step Process
1. Inspection & Quote
We start by assessing the bird activity and the issues it’s causing, including nesting, droppings, and damage around solar panels or other areas of the home. In many cases, we can provide a quote through photos or messaging. We also offer free in-person inspections for more extensive problems.
2. Cleanup (When Needed) & Preparation
If there is significant buildup of droppings or nesting materials, we begin with a thorough cleanup to safely remove debris and prepare the area for installation. This step is performed as needed depending on the severity of the infestation.
3. Bird Proofing & Final Results
We install the appropriate bird-proofing solutions, including solar panel mesh, bird spikes, or custom screening based on the problem areas. Every job is documented with before-and-after photos so you can clearly see the results and completed work. We deliver transparency and honesty with everything we do on your home.
